The Muslim religion has been around for many decades. A Muslim relates to a person who follows the religion of Islam, monotheistic and Abrahamic religion based on the Quran. The Quran is the verbatim word of God as revealed to the Islamic prophet Muhammad. Muslim is an Arabic word meaning one who submits to God.
On September 11, 2001 the United States was attacked by a terrorist group in the middle east. The group that did this was a muslim religion. Ever since this against, the citizens of the United States has been judging and stereotyping all people that look muslim. Some will assume that most or all muslims are terrorist or believe in terrorist actions causing a lot of problem in society because this creates tension between religion and the people of the United States. Some people will not treat muslims with respect or as equals because of the fact that he or she is a muslim. The problem is that most of the people in the country are not educated about the muslim religion. They fail to recognize that there is only a small group in the middle east that are terrorist and they don’t just attack Americans. It’s sad because even some parts of the middle east are being attack by random suicide bombers whom are also muslim. It’s not just the United States that get attack my terrorist groups.
One of my close friends is a Muslim. He was born here but his family came here from India. I’ve known him for over 10 years now and i asked him what he thinks Americans think of Muslims after the September 11 terrorist attacks. He said; “After the September 11 attack I was very confused because at the time i was only eight years. I remember my family going crazy and in disbelief that their own religion would do such a thing. For the first couple years after the attack. Every time my family and I went the airport they would search us way more than they would to the other Americans. My mother and father dress like they are in India at times so when we went to the airport to go to Chicago a little over a year after 9/11, the airport security was really tight. They were double checking bags and pulling people over that look suspicious which included my family. As the years went on the hatred for muslims and the stereotypes about muslims being terrorist were reduced to a minimal level but it’s still there. I just want to tell the American public that muslims are as scared of terrorist attacks or even more. These attacks are happening all over the middle east. Americans are not the only ones that get attack by terrorist groups.”
